This week's blog is about my first experience with what is currently known as 'urban exploration', primarily involving abandoned buildings and other man made structures. This particular property, an abandoned shipyard, is located in the Port of Los Angeles. I located it while searching online for abandoned properties in the LA area. The property consists of about a half dozen buildings on roughly a half acre of land. When I arrived the gate was wide open, so I just walked in and started shooting. I even ran into a county pest control inspector, who just warned me to be careful and not get locked in - but that I should be ok for at least a few hours. After about an hour and half of shooting, I walked out the gate. As I got into my car, I noticed a fellow had just pulled up to the gate and was locking it and leaving the property. I just barely avoided spending the night in this crazy place. It ceased operations as a shipyard in 2005.

Until next week. Hopefully I can avoid getting arrested.
